Read the back of the ticket

Measure the pile before the truck leaves

Length times width times height in feet, divided by 27, is cubic yards. A loader bucket isn't regulated, so a yard that weighs loads on a certified scale or uses a certified yard bucket says so on its listing.

Yards vs tons

Screened means through a mesh, not rock free

Ask which screen size the yard uses, look at the pile if you can, and check a delivered load before you sign the ticket.

Screened vs unscreened topsoil

Ask about the fee, the minimum and the truck

Many yards charge delivery by distance, set a 2 to 5 yard minimum, and carry one material per truck. Listings show these when the yard publishes them.
